Does any one else HATE this question?
image because this is my favorite OEM wheel period. That is something I can pick a favorite of.
IDK about you but I get this question a lot from Non-enthusiasts and I can never answer it. for 3 reasons
1, It’s too vague. Cars some in all kinda of shapes, sizes, decades, countries of origin engines, drive-train layouts, price ranges, and intended purpose. I cant possible pick just one car and say its better than all the others. I personally feel it is impossible for me to have an end all be all “ Favorite car”.
Usually I’ll ask for a specific “genre” of car like “90 car economy car” or “50's American car”
2. My answer could change on a daily basis. I get excited about a car I find on CL or BaT, or one that i just learned about, and maybe that’s my “favorite” car of the day, but I might have a a different one tomorrow.
3 9/10 times the person asking the question doesn’t actually care what and wont understand how a 86 CRX Si, or 50 Dodge sedan, or a 2011 135i , could possibly be my favorite car.
bonus 4th reason is that non enthusiasts have under researched stupid answers like “the Lambo Choontash” or “that new McLaren” which were chosen purely because they flashy or expensive, which IMO is a stupid reason to like a car.

If you’re lucky, your favorite car is the one you’re driving right now.
![]() 12/12/2018 at 12:45 |

Completely agree. Now, what’s your favorite song?
![]() 12/12/2018 at 12:46 |

I don’t hate that question, but the person who does usually hates it after I go down the BMW rabbit hole.

my car is a good compromise, but if money, and space weren’t an issue, i would not own it.

There’s always a compromise. Not everyone is lucky enough to have the money or is in the right time and place to own their absolute favorite car.

probably this one. Its one song i never get tired of, and can listen to in just about any situation . the original version is pretty great, but i prefer the acoustic . I also saw MCS preform this album acoustic live, it was a great show, and probably skews my view.
![]() 12/12/2018 at 12:51 |

exactly. I think it’s my favorite of the cars I’ ve owned so far.
![]() 12/12/2018 at 12:52 |

i used to be the same way, but it was a Honda rabbit hole. Now I’ve broadened my horizons which just makes this choice harder.

It would have to be Rise Against, paper wings.
loved it in elementary and high school, adoredd it in burnout 3.
15 years later, still the first song I load on any new phone or Ipod or whatever

what is your favorite thing?
![]() 12/12/2018 at 12:56 |

I don’t hate it, but I don’t like it. Particularly when it’s being asked by someone who doesn’t even know what kind of car they drive (90% of people that ask this question.
My answer can be complex or simple, but if you get down to the “you have to pick one particular car this instant” My answer is “A Singer 911"

The ice breaker activity for my school’s car club this year was “tell us your name, dream car, and current daily.”
“Hi guys, I’m WAY2BLU and my dream car is a stick shift ‘91 Toyota MR2. My daily driver is a stick shift ‘91 Toyota MR2.”
![]() 12/12/2018 at 12:58 |

oh that’ s a good one. if were counting custom jobs like this I’d gladly take a Electric Derelict 49 Ford . Jonathon Word can have my money.

1967 Saab 96. I like the streamline design, you could get a 2 stroke with oil injector
or the V4 that year. It has a flat floor, free wheel, and is FF.
(T
he most efficient designs put the engine next to the drive wheels.) It is still an affordable classic. It has back seats, so you can take more than 1 person in it.

Give me a top five at least. although TBH I do have a favorite and it is going to be my first goal once acquiring
a house.

I’ve found my dream car to adjust with time. The ISF was a dream car I never thought I could have , but now I have one and I want a 911. CRAP.

nope i just lie and name a supercar so they can nod and be all understanding coz ofcourse its a pagani i love those tooo
beats trying to explain i really really want an 82 civic wagon
now why do you want to work here... i hate that question
they know damn well i gots bills to pay thats why... but im not allowed to say that... have to brownnose the company and call it a great opportunity or some shit instead

It usually comes up when there is a big lottery pot. People at work ask me, “what car would you buy if you won?” The only bad part is then I have to explain what a Singer 911 is and why it would cost in the neighborhood of one million dollars. Then I show them a pic and they’re like “oooooooh”
![]() 12/12/2018 at 13:03 |

e yes I’ll take a stock V4 Estate for DD use, and a rally prepped 2 stro ke please
![]() 12/12/2018 at 13:05 |

ah the “if you one the lottery what car would you buy? ”
my answer is usually a big plot of land and a hand full of beaters.

This was an interview question when I was working at a hot rod shop. My answer has remained the same since I was about 8 years old, 1969 Corvette Stingray in dark forest green with a shaker hood and lake pipes.
But that’s mostly nostalgia from gran turismo 2 days and the longing for that car. R ealistically if I sat and thought about it, I couldn’t give an accurate answer inclusive of all the vehicles in the world. I did own my number one obtainable dream car, the 500 Abarth, for several years and it’s really screwed up the list. Idk what should be in the number one spot now.
![]() 12/12/2018 at 13:08 |

that question is especially stupid when its an entry level, or near minimum wage job. the answer in reality is “I don’t want to work here”. but the best res pons e is I see an opportunity for growth and a company I can stick with.”
![]() 12/12/2018 at 13:09 |

What’s your favorite movie?
Yeah, people expect one answer when it’s not really that simple. Hell, just explaining what Lancia is at this point can be a longer answer than most people were looking for.
![]() 12/12/2018 at 13:10 |

I have favorites for different roles and purposes but they change frequently.
Best long term daily is probably a Camry
Most fun daily probably a GTI with the DCT
If I’m in the mood for a rally car the WRX
Off road/SUV is 4Runner
Fun car varies a lot but probably a WRX or a Mustang
Best midsize truck probably a Tacoma but the new Ranger looks sweet
Best truck probably an Ford F-250 diesel
I lap consider price with these options and decisions so it’s a very complicated question really.
![]() 12/12/2018 at 13:10 |

Dude you nailed it. Scott Pilgrim vs the World is my favorite movie. I don’ t even skip a beat with that one.
![]() 12/12/2018 at 13:11 |

I agree - I can list cars that I like a lot. But I can’t pick one.
I hate this question about a favorite something
. Be it cars or movies or song or even wheels.
I like many things and my preferences change. Why can’t I like many things?

receiving a blow job? yup thats it.

I think car and color are the hardest ones. With color I need context, my favorite color for a 3 piece suit is not my favorite color for the exterior of a house.

Personally I love getting asked since I can give random answers . My last three answers were:
MK2 Jaguar
Toyota Chaser
Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo Touring
Watching the frantic G oogling afterwards is always amusing.
![]() 12/12/2018 at 13:14 |

i think they only ask that question for entry level jobs... for better paid jobs you’re expected to brown nose in the letter/email attached to your cv :p
![]() 12/12/2018 at 13:14 |
|
i do usually try to come up with something that will result in a “huh?”
![]() 12/12/2018 at 13:21 |
|
yeah that will change. My “reasonable dream car” has been a supercharged, manual 94/5 Camry V6 coupe, a Hyundia Genesis 2.0t, a heavily modded 91 Civic, a Starion TSI, and a late 70s American coupe turned Bosozoku car. in that order. those are just the ones since I’ ve actually owned a car. the list before that is looooong.
![]() 12/12/2018 at 13:21 |

it gets even better when you start telling them about the car, and then out of nowhere tell them about the driveline/engine swap combination from something more ridiculous......... just watching those eyes glaze over as you start in on specs .......
![]() 12/12/2018 at 13:22 |

Its the sort of question that’s only acceptable if the person being asked is a C-list celebrity and the asker is a writer for an in-flight magazine.

It s milk and eggs, bitch
![]() 12/12/2018 at 13:28 |

I ’ve been there. for a while my favorite car was my 1991 Civic. to which most people responded “really? ”
then I’d start explaining how I want to swap in a B18c1 from an Integra, and make my own Carbon fiber body panels, and 15x10" wheels with big sticky tires, and the 5 inch 944 style box fender flares that would require, and it would have a full cage, lexan windows, and basically be a 1600lb go cart with 250 NA horse power.
now try explaining to the average joe that what you really want to do is build a Bosozoku car...

It’s like the “What’s your favorite beer?” question.
My usual answer?
“I don’t konw, I haven’t drank them all yet.”

I have many dream cars. I’ve had two and already so I’ll just have to keep moving down the list. I need more space/time/money for a lot of them, though.

![]() 12/12/2018 at 13:44 |

they wanted a brake from touring. Justin especially, then he got bored and started touring again. lol
![]() 12/12/2018 at 13:47 |

That’s a p
retty good choice for a self admitted
non-enthusiast.
But at least you know you like dark beers, and there’s a pretty wide selection of delicious dark beers out there, and they’re usually similar enough that you could grab one at random and probably like it.

YES.......... like i said , i love to watch eyes glaze over......
it happens everytime someone makes the mistake of asking if i am working on anything interesting. and then i got em on the hook as i tell them about my 1927 ford model t, sbc v8, 4x4, manual trans, 1700lb, (dodge demon outrunning) project......
![]() 12/12/2018 at 14:01 |

a nic e soft yellow for the house.

Here is the thing about car people; they can appreciate just about any car. Favorite? For what reason?
Favorite car which...
- didn’t need a turbo and a manual but got one? Chevy HHR
- looks ordinary but isn’t? Golf R
- i s probably a hot mess but I’m glad someone owns ? Audi Allroad
- I could maybe own someday; maybe? BMW M2 Comp
- also any car with a ginormous wing
![]() 12/12/2018 at 15:06 |
|
That’s good, I’ll have to remember that.
![]() 12/12/2018 at 15:08 |

All valid reasons. I’d pick a Caliber SRT-4 over an HHR SS anyday

Hate this, I’m asked the question at least a couple of times a week. I can only answer by asking qualifying questions. For what purpose? Budget? Do I have to haul my family? Utility? Daily driver? Rallying? Road trips? Pure driving pleasure? Hooning? Aesthetics? Comfort? Engineering? They’re all different answers. I mean, I really, really like my little beater Nissan truck to daily drive, it makes me happy. But people expect some bonkers expensive flashy car as an answer, so if they can’t define it better I just answer with the 1961 Ferrari 250GT SWB berlinetta and they leave me alone .

I have gone with a GTC4 Lusso a few times, because if I were a millionaire that is one stupid expensive car I would buy.
Of course they have no idea what that is and they look at me funny when I say “it’s a 4 seater, AWD, Ferrari hatchback
